It is no longer news that gospel singer, Eric Arubayi is dead. What many are unaware of is how the 3rd runner up at the maiden edition of the West African Idol, really died. The 33 year old had a bout of malaria fever days leading to Saturday before he gave up the ghost.

He had purchased some malaria tablets to treat it but was unaware that the drugs were expired drugs. The drugs reportedly began to wreck havoc in his system prompting him to be rushed to the Delta State Teaching Hospital. He reportedly went into a coma from which he never woke up.

There wasn’t any indication that the worship leader at the House on the Rock church, Lagos was suffering from any terminal illness. Eric Arubayi who is survived by his wife, a son and three siblings was one of the sons of the Former Delta State University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arubayi.
