That is the big question.

Almost two years after Augustine Umahi turned down his appointment as the secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed him as the chairman, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Augustine is the younger brother of Dave Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State and the current Minister for Works.

Earlier, Tinubu appointed board chairpersons for 42 federal organisations and a secretary to the board of the Civil Defence, Immigration, and Prisons Services. He also appointed a new managing director for the Nigerian Railway Corporation and a director-general for the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI).

Tinubu while directing the board chairpersons not to interfere with the management of the organisations, emphasising that their positions are non-executive said that all the appointments take immediate effect.

But back in July 2022, Buhari had approved the younger Umahi and two other’s appointment into three government agencies as executive officers.

He was to serve as the secretary of RMAFC for an initial term of four years with effect from July 6. He however declined the appointment saying that the appointment is best for job seekers, retired civil servants or anyone who loves the job.

He added that he is also convinced that at his age and work experience, he knows exactly what he wants in life.

“Anyone interested in the position should not hesitate to approach our indefatigable governor to do the needful. This is because to my knowledge, the position is still vacant,” Umahi had said.

But will he accept this appointment or turn it down like he did with his appointment during Buhari’s era? Will he also site the fact that he knows exactly what he wants in life as a valid reason should he chose to turn down the appointment or attribute it to an offer fit for job seekers or retired civil servants?

The younger Umahi who won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Ebonyi South Senatorial District in May 28, 2022, reportedly relinquished his senatorial candidacy to his older brother who failed to clinch the party’s presidential ticket during the primary.
