Following his exit from active participation in the banking industry, after the acquisition of Diamond Bank by Access Bank, not a few assumed that Uzoma Dozie, the former managing director of Diamond Bank may look at expanding his frontiers with the business of photography or other lifestyle ventures which he is quite passionate about.

But alas, the scion of board room guru, Pascal Dozie has shown that he is not done with the banking space with his new found interest, Sparkle, a digital bank.

While many have applauded him for his tenacity and can-do spirit, not a few have questioned his managerial ability especially because of how fast Diamond Bank which was nurtured by his father and left for him to manage, allegedly went down the hill so fast it almost crashed, save for the timely intervention of Access Bank. Some have also wondered why he is the face of the enterprise as it would have been better if he operated from the background, with someone else selling the Sparkle brand.

They argue that Uzoma being the face of the digital bank would be a hard sell considering his antecedents in Diamond Bank. In essence, these pundits claim Uzoma does not exactly fit into the mould of an image-maker of a financial institution. They allude to the fact that being the face of the Sparkle brand shows him as a desperate man eager to show the world that he isn’t down and out after his time in Diamond Bank.

But having raised about 1.2 billion naira to drive his new enterprise, perhaps, critics should give him a chance and see what he eventually makes of Sparkle Bank.
