She was mocked for being a trained hairdresser, a trade her colleagues found too demeaning to have her preside over members of the lower chambers, most of who were learned. Coupled with her alleged involvement in a 628 million naira contract scandal, her days as Speaker of The House of Representatives became numbered. In fact she was only speaker for five months, between June and October 2007. Soon after her time in the House ended, Patricia Etteh decided it was best she upgraded her educational qualifications by getting into Buckingham University, London for a degree in law and forensic studies. She was among the 4,225 new lawyers that were called to the Nigerian bar recently. With an LL.B. from such a prestigious university under her belt, she will naturally be ready to take on the world.
