The former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Orji was issued the APC membership card by the State Chairman of the Party in Abia State, Kingsley Ononogbu, on Tuesday, May 7.

The former Speaker, the son of Theodore Orji, a former governor of Abia State had on Monday, May 6, tendered his resignation from the PDP.

According to him, the move had become very necessary, following some issues rocking the party.

“After careful consultation and personal decision, I have decided to exit the PDP. It’s time to move on with our lives,” Orji said.

He served as the 11th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly from June 10, 2019, till June 10, 2023.

Orji was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly on the 10th of June, 2019 during the Inauguration of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The former Speaker had emerged as the Lawmaker representing Umuahia Central State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly at the 2015 general elections and served as Majority Leader of the House till 2019 when he was re-elected into the 7th Assembly.
