The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, on Wednesday, overturned the appointment of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The state government had announced the former pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Olaoye as the new Soun and made him king, on September 8, 2023.

Before this time, another contender for the throne, Prince Kabir Laoye had said that Ghandi was not eligible to take Soun’s position.

The court ordered at that time that the Oyo state government must not appoint anyone to the position, until it will issue his judgment.

Prince Kabir challenged Ghandi’s appointment and explained that there was a formal flaw in the process by which he was appointed.

He is therefore urging the Supreme Court to cancel the appointment of the new king, and also order the kingmakers to start the process of appointing another King.

While delivering his judgment, Judge Adedokun announced that the appointment of King Laoye was illegal. He also ordered the kingmakers to start the right process to elect a new Soun.
