As one of the must-attend events at the Cannes Film Festival, super model, Naomi Campbell’s annual Fashion for Relief gala, a fashion event to raise funds for international relief causes, didn’t fail to hold and as expected, there were quite a number of celebrities in attendance as well as those who took to the runway. Launched in 2005, the Fashion for Relief initiative for which Campbell is a spokesperson has raised millions for various causes, from the Haiti earthquake to the fight against Ebola.

This time Naomi Campbell organised the show to raise funds for the #TimesUp initiative. This year’s theme was ‘Race To Equality’ and according to her, equality means to be treated fairly in equal ways, impartiality, anywhere in the world. Naomi also used the opportunity of the fashion event to hint that she is seriously considering retiring from the runways. She said, “I don’t know if I can walk much longer, it’s been 32 years. But it’s an honor to walk. . . . I’d love for it to be carried on by the younger generation and for me to sit in the audience and watch.”

Whether or not she meant it, it would be surreal not to have Naomi cat walk the runway ever again as she has grown to be a recurring decimal in the fashion and modeling world. And very unlike her counterparts, who have retired, gone on to raise a family or even faded into obscurity, Naomi Campbell Campbell has remained a constant and is still as relevant as when she first started out over 30 years ago. Only time will tell if Campbell truly intends to take a break from the runways but she is certainly not going to stay out of the spotlight.
