Obiora Okonkwo, chairman of the United Nigeria Airlines, has declared his intention to run for the 2025 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event to declare his intention in Idemili north LGA of the state, Okonkwo said Anambra is facing serious challenges, adding that despite the state’s potentials, it still faces the problems of unemployment, insecurity and economic stagnation.

The professor said the people of Anambra must prioritise competence over zoning.

As a way of providing employment, the United Nigeria Airlines chairman said he would institutionalise “Nkwado Ogalanya” (Igba Boi), a model that would provide young people with vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

The businessman said he was one of those instrumental to the formation of the APC and that his loyalty to the party is unquestionable.

This won’t be Okonkwo’s first rodeo in the gubernatorial race.
Back in 2021, he was an aspirant on the platform of People Democratic Party (PDP). But following his loss at the primary, he vowed to try his luck again on the platform of another political party following his loss of the ticket in PDP during the party’s primary, adding that he is capable of actualising his governorship dream in another political party.
