Barely two years after Adesua Dozie, was appointed vice chairman of ExxonMobil board, President Bola Tinubu has now appointed her the Company Secretary and Chief Legal Officer of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, thus making her a trailblazer in her field, as the first female regional general counsel for Africa Upstream.
Adesua who is a lawyer, technocrat and the immediate past executive director/General Counsel, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) both affiliates of ExxonMobil, was appointed as a continuation of her impressive career trajectory which has seen her work with some of the biggest names globally.
Prior to this, she was the General Counsel of GE Africa. As General Counsel, Adesua advised on over $10 billion on transactions across the continent, in turn facilitating regional growth, strengthening corporate governance and compliance cultures across diverse business communities, and serving as a guardian of the complex dynamics between purpose, profit and risk.
Prior to joining GE in 2013, Adesua worked in senior legal roles for the Coca-Cola Company, where she also supported the growth of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation as Legal Adviser and Secretary to the Board. She previously served as Legal Counsel to Elf Petroleum Nigeria and was an Associate Counsel for Ajumogobia & Okeke.
Her remarkable expertise in legal counsel, regulatory compliance, and strategic leadership makes her a true powerhouse in the energy sector.
Adesua who is a graduate of Cornell Law School. Adesua is married to Uzoma Dozie, a former managing director of defunct Diamond Bank.
Besides Adesua, Sophia Mbakwe also joined the new restructured leadership of the new eight-member Senior Management Team into the position of Executive Vice President of Business Services after a distinguished career within NNPC, including serving as MD/CEO of NNPC Energy Services Ltd. She played a pivotal role in the organization’s historic transition from a government corporation to a private entity. Beyond her corporate responsibilities, she is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and serves as a Trustee of the Sickle Cell Cohort Research (SCORE) Foundation.
