The Federal High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi to death by hanging.

Nwachukwu was arraigned before Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme on Monday, April 28 on a 23-count charge of culpable homicide punishable by death, domestic violence, child abuse, and other related offenses.

During the trial, the prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including two of Osinachi’s children (PW4 and PW5), and submitted 25 documents as evidence.

In his defense, Nwachukwu testified on his own behalf, called four additional witnesses, and presented four exhibits.

Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, asked the court for leniency, while the prosecuting counsel, Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the full weight of the law.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide in connection with Osinachi’s death on Friday, April 8, 2022.

He ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the conviction and sentencing.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme then sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on Count 1.

For Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18, he received two years’ imprisonment each.

He also received six months on Count 10 and three years on Count 11.

Additionally, he was fined N500,000 and N200,000 for Counts 6 and 7, respectively.
