The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to release prominent businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, within 24 hours.
Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the directive during a ruling on Wednesday. He also instructed all parties involved, particularly the EFCC, to return to court on Friday, May 2, with a compliance report on the release order.
In adherence to a previous court directive, EFCC operatives brought Achimugu to the courtroom on Wednesday. She was seen flanked by two female officers as she made her appearance.
Justice Ekwo had earlier, on Monday, April 28, directed Achimugu to respond to an EFCC invitation after she was accused of fleeing the country amid an investigation. The judge had ordered that she report to the anti-graft agency on Tuesday and be returned to court the following day.
Upon her arrival back in Nigeria, Achimugu was immediately apprehended by EFCC operatives and held in custody, prompting Wednesday’s order for her immediate release.
