You may have heard about the private jet that lost its door mid-air at an altitude of 3,500 and was forced to make an emergency landing in Abuja on Thursday last week.

Well, the private jet is owned by Nigerian oil and power tycoon Kola Karim, the chief executive officer of Shoreline Energy International, whose biggest asset is the OML 30 oil block in the Niger Delta.

The aircraft lost its door shortly after taking off from Abuja on Thursday, forcing the crew to declare an emergency and return to the airport. The Bombardier Challenger 604, registered T7-SEI, was climbing through 3,500 feet about three nautical miles from the airport when the door separated and fell on farmland near Abuja. The crew landed safely and the nine people on board were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

According to experts, it is apparent that the door came off because the aircraft has not been well maintained despite the fact that the owner is a wealthy man. The aircraft built in 2002 is operated by Triton Aviation, a Lagos charter company.
