Iyabo Obasanjo has suspended her aspiration to contest the Ogun state governorship election in 2027.

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo announced the development in a statement on Monday.

She attributed her decision to the endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” Obasanjo said.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”

She expressed gratitude to her supporters for the “unwavering trust” they reposed throughout the period she declared her intention for run for of the south-west state.

On Monday, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, named Adeola as the APC preferred candidate to succeed him in 2027.

The governor said the decision followed consultations within the party leadership, noting that the endorsement was aimed at ensuring continuity and unity within the APC.

Adeola currently chairs the senate committee on appropriations. He previously represented Lagos west before moving his political base to Ogun state.
