Emmanuel Fayose, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his intention to run for governor of Ekiti State.

Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, made the announcement in a statement released on Friday, January 10.

He explained that his decision to enter the race stems from his commitment to revitalizing the state and steering it back towards progress and development.

“I am in the race to dislodge the Oyebanji-led government, and eventually, if I win, I will run an inclusive government that would steer Ekiti in the right direction,” he said.

Fayose revealed that his decision to join the governorship race was further fueled by a recent meeting between his brother, Ayodele Fayose, and President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

During the meeting, the former governor reportedly told the president that he would support the current governor’s bid for re-election, a move that has been criticized by party members in Ekiti as being against the party’s interests.

Despite the controversy surrounding this development, Fayose stated that he remained undeterred.

Instead of being discouraged by the negative reaction, he expressed confidence and vowed to surprise his critics by obtaining the PDP nomination form, firmly believing that the people of Ekiti would rally behind him and ensure his victory.

“I read about the meeting in the newspapers like any other person and I wish to state that the meeting has nothing to do with my aspiration,” Fayose said.

“The meeting will not in any way impact my aspiration because the former governor, being my elder brother, is only exercising his Democratic rights of freedom of choice.

“His choice and preferences will not and cannot in any way impact negatively on my bid as we are separate entities pursuing different goals.”

Fayose urged his supporters in Ekiti to stay committed and determined in their pursuit of positive change.

He emphasized that in 2026, the PDP would regain control of the state and work towards its reconstruction and progress.

“So my brother is on his own and it’s left for the leadership of our great party to ascertain his political allegiance either to our PDP or APC,” he said.

“I am, however, using the opportunity provided by this platform to urge our teeming supporters to remain firm and resolute and not to be distracted in any way to cause the needed change in our state.”
