After failing to secure the governorship ticket of Ogun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, two-time gubernatorial hopeful, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf has resigned from the party.

A former special adviser to governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Modele said her decision followed an extended period of travelling, spending time with family, and engaging in thoughtful and quiet reflection as well as summoning the courage to reassess her political trajectory. Sarafa-Yusuf said she would return to her professional and business commitments after her holiday while taking time to determine the form her next phase of political engagement would take.

In 2018, Modele joined Abiodun’s campaign team for the Ogun governorship election as director of media and publicity. After Abiodun won the election, he appointed her special adviser on information and strategy. In 2022, she contested the APC governorship primary in Ogun but failed to secure the party’s ticket. Again in February, Sarafa-Yusuf declared her intention to contest the 2027 Ogun governorship election on the platform of the APC and for the second time, failed to secure the party’s ticket.
