Barely two weeks after Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy revealed that he has dabbled into the production and assembling of electric cars, the Redeemed Christian Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye is bringing advanced healthcare to Nigeria, training Nigerian professionals, and potentially reducing the number of Nigerians who have to travel abroad for treatment. The church is bringing robotic surgery to Nigeria.

For many who do not know, Robotic surgery or robot-assisted surgery is any type of surgical procedure that is performed with the use of robotic systems with the primary goal of overcoming the limitations of pre-existing minimally invasive surgical procedures, alongside enhancing the capabilities of surgeons performing open surgeries. With the coming of Robotic surgery to Nigeria, it means that Nigerians may no longer need to travel abroad for some complex surgical procedures.

The robots will be deployed at Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV), an initiative of RCCG. Already, the hospital has acquired two robotic surgery systems one for clinical procedures and another for training medical professionals.

The programme will cover specialties including; Urology, General surgery, Gynaecology, Colorectal surgery, Thoracic surgery and Hepatobiliary surgery. In addition, RHV is also establishing a Robotic Academy to train Nigerian medical professionals in robotic surgery, with training expected to begin in October.

And the good thing is that some procedures could cost around 5% of what patients might pay in the United States or Europe.
