The Nigerian military has confirmed that some officers were implicated in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

In October last year, officers ranging from Captain to Brigadier-General were reportedly arrested and detained by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) over allegations of attempting to topple the government.

Major-General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, confirmed that the investigation panel had forwarded its report to the appropriate superior authority.

Uba said officers found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before military judicial panels and tried under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.

He stated that the investigation, conducted according to military procedures, reviewed all circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct and found that some were linked to allegations of plotting to overthrow the government actions he described as contrary to the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).

Uba explained that the military released the information to ensure accountability while upholding fairness and due process. He reiterated the AFN’s commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.

He added that the measures being taken are disciplinary and part of institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
