A section of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu’s palace at the Iga Iduganran area of Lagos Island was on Tuesday gutted by fire which started from an air conditioner in an apartment inside the palace. The fire started at about 1.30pm after which Lagos State Fire Service firefighters attached to Iganmu were contacted. They battled with the fire for about an hour before finally putting it out. A senior emergency official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the fire had been put out.

The fire may have affected a section of the palace where traditional regalia were kept, an official has said.
