Socialite, Peter Obafemi is considering taking a third shot at the governorship election in Ekiti State come 2026. The promoter of defunct Ritetime Aviation & Travel Services, operators of World Airways that provided direct flights from Nigeria to Atlanta in early 2000, hopes to try his luck on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Already, he has activated the process by first starting with the criticism of the All Progressive Congress, APC, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He bemoaned the decline in the educational standards of the state, saying that it has led Ekiti to being ranked 8th in the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC performance among the 36 states in the country. He alleged that the APC has done nothing to benefit indigenes and has promised that when he is elected governor, he will provide free education for indigenes of the state, from primary to tertiary institutions.

Because of the state’s abundant natural resources, including cocoa, gold, coconut, among others, he has also pledged to revitalize the agricultural sector of the state, aiming to make Ekiti the food basket of the nation while assuring that he would address the issue of insecurity with a robust security architecture.

He also criticised the governor for not doing enough to make the airport in the state viable as only shuttle flights rather than international flights are the only flights operating at the airport.

“I’m going to make a difference for Ekiti, so that when you are coming from other states, you will travel on the right roads to Ekiti. Every road that is designated as a federal road is, as far as I’m concerned, a state road because it’s our people who will use it,” he added.

As earlier mentioned, this is not Obafemi’s first rodeo in the political space. He made his first attempt in 2021 and a second one in 2015, both on the platform of PDP but his dreams were dashed, he never made it past the primary.

In his heydays, Obafemi was known as the ultimate Mr. Lavishness. His capacity for debauchery and wantonness was without equal. He threw the best parties, had anything he wanted at his beck and call, no matter the price. Unfortunately, all that debauchery and wantonness came to an end when the graduate of Cinematography and Film production, without warning, fell on bad times so much so that he had to ask the leadership of the church where he worships, to whom he had been generous to in time past, to return some of the gifts he had given them, to help with his rehabilitation, much to their shock and chagrin.

Despite his financial condition at that time, he re launched his 2015 governorship bid with the little funds he managed to scrounge, coupled with the several prodding he got from friends, elders and top politicians in the state. But when he failed to clinch the ticket and returned to square one, many of his well-heeled friends he felt would have come to his aid, all left him to his fate. It was at that point he vowed never to be of help to anyone once he bounces back from his political and business wilderness.
