A high court in Lokoja, Kogi state judiciary has sacked the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, His Majesty Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Tijani Anaje from office.

Hon Justice Salisu Umar, the Presiding judge of High Court 6 Lokoja in his ruling on Monday made an order directing the defender to stop parading himself as the paramount traditional ruler of Ebira land.

Though the court is yet to make available details of the judgement, it pertains to a case filed under suit number HCO/05C/2024, brought before the court by Dr. Barnabas Adeku Ojiah and two others, challenging the legality of Anaje’s appointment. The petitioners named both the Governor of Kogi State and Anaje as defendants in the suit.

The court found merit in the petitioners’ arguments regarding irregularities in the selection process that led to Anaje’s emergence as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland. Following the ruling, the court has mandated compliance with traditional and legal procedures for selecting a new Ohinoyi.

Alhaji Ahmed Tijani Anaje from Adavi was named as the fifth Ohinoyi of Ebiraland by former Governor Yahaya Bello in January 2024. He recently celebrated his first anniversary on the throne.
