New details surrounding the death of Dr Chilke Akunyili, the husband of the late Prof. Dora Akunyuli, the former director-general (DG) of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have emerged.

IvoryNG earlier reported that Akunyili, a medical doctor was killed on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, on his way from Onitsha to Umuoji at Eke Nkpor alongside his security detail, a priest and his driver.

New information available to The Street Journal reveals that Dora Akunyili’s husband struggled for life as onlookers did nothing shortly after he was attacked by unknown gunmen.

Akunyili could be seen lying on the floor with his bloodied eyes and opened skull. He was gasping for air while onlookers filmed him. No one helped to rush him to the hospital after the attack.

Similarly, an 11 seconds video making the rounds on social media on Wednesday morning saw the deceased still grasping for life after being shot by the gunmen at close range while some passersby watch in bewilderment.

From the gruesome video it can be observed that residents and passers-by in the area where Dr Akunyili was attacked only stood and watched as he breathed his last.
