Yesterday afternoon, a young man reportedly jumped into the canal on Festac-Link bridge in an apparent suicide attempt. The identity of the man has now been revealed as Bayode Ahmed Lawal, an Industrial and Applied Chemistry graduate of Unilorin, Kwara State.

His ordeal was said to have started from Mobil filling station when he unannounced, laid down on the floor. He was with his friends who beckoned on him to stand up attempting to find out what was wrong with him. He stood up and all of a sudden began to run fast towards the bridge.

His friends tried to stop him, chasing after him but before they could get hold of him, he had already jumped into the canal. His body is yet to be retrieved and he left behind his mother, a single mom, and other siblings.
