The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), has not only honoured the Senate’s invitation to appear before it to avoid being arrested, he unfortunately didn’t heed to their demand to appear before it in his uniform depicting his rank as the DG. Instead he was sighted at the National Assembly Complex in white traditional attire. The lawmakers entered a closed door session at 10:45am, shortly after the plenary began.

Recall that on Tuesday, the Senate had resolved that the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), should appear before it on Thursday. Efforts by Saraki and the Chief Whip, Senator Sola Adeyeye, to seek soft landing for the Customs boss failed. The lawmakers chorused their insistence on Ali’s appearance or get him arrested

The Customs boss had today, failed to appear before the Senate say that he was bereaved.
“I’ll make myself available whenever I’m needed in future”, he said, in a letter to the Senate President which was read today at the plenary session.

The Senate President also read a statement issued by the NCS in which the service said the policy on payments of duties old vehicles had been put on hold. The lawmakers have however, expressed their dissatisfaction with Ali’s excuses for his non appearance
