The Taraba state government has lifted the ban on religious gatherings after almost two months in a bid curb the spread of COVID-19.

Despite the increasing COVID-19 case in the country, Taraba joins Ebonyi, Borno, Gombe and Adamawa States who have lifted the ban on religious gatherings.

In a broadcast in Jalingo, the state capital, on Monday, Haruna Manu, the state deputy governor, said the ban had been lifted. He said the government has set aside Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to enable the residents to carry out their religious activities from 8am to 6pm.

Manu said the lockdown in the state would still be observed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, adding that violators would face strict penalties. The deputy governor noted that the observance of social distancing and other safety protocols must be strictly adhered to.

Taraba has recorded a total number of 17 confirmed cases of the disease.
