Perhaps former beauty queen and socialite, Nike Oshinowo is holding on fast to the saying that ‘As man grows older, he also learns to let go of past glories and fame and hold fast to less ephemeral things like familial love and friendships.’ Or how else does one explain the reason behind her disappearing acts on the social scene; one minute she recoils into her shell leaving many wondering what is up with her and the next, she resurfaces at a high profile event like all is well. Besides her disappearing acts, is also the worrisome trend that the various businesses she has been involved in to date, has assumed. The beauty queen hardly ever sees to the end any venture she lays her hands on. First it was her spa business, Skin Deep which she ran for a few years and later shut down for reasons best known to her despite the fact the business was flourishing.

Then she ventured into the upscale restaurant thing. That too didn’t linger. Then she moved on to launch a work out DVD and a perfume which sadly have be fogteten about since they made their debut on the scene. She attempted to revive the Miss Nigeria brand under the Daily Times Newspaper, but sadly, after one competition, she moved on. The Beauty pageant brand is undoubtedly thriving without her. She finally added talk show host to her resume when she began her late night talk show which she called, ‘Late Night with Nike Oshinowo’. That she ended after only one season. What with a set of twin boy and girl which she got by surrogacy, it could be that the demands of mother hood is robbing her of properly managing any business she gets involved in? That would be far from the truth as there are thousands of women who have successfully raised children while running thriving businesses. Only time will tell what the real issue is with Nike Oshinowo.
