The Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Shaibu Husseini, has been honoured as a Dance Ambassador at the 11th Annual International Conference of the Association of Dance Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ADSPON), held at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State.

Husseini announced the recognition in a statement expressing gratitude to ADSPON and the university for acknowledging his contributions to dance and the performing arts in Nigeria.

He described the honour as particularly meaningful, noting that dance had been central to his life and career long before he assumed executive leadership roles.

According to him, he spent nearly three decades as a professional dancer with the National Troupe of Nigeria before serving as national chairman of the Dance Guild of Nigeria (GOND), where he advocated for the development and welfare of practitioners across the country.

Husseini said his transition into mass communication and his current executive position had not diminished his commitment to dance and the performing arts.

He added that his experience in communication, media and leadership would strengthen his efforts to promote Nigeria’s creative industry and expand its global reach.

The NFVCB director-general expressed appreciation to ADSPON, led by Professor Mariam Asabe Iyeh, and the management of Dennis Osadebay University, led by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Aghalio, for the recognition.

He also acknowledged Professor Jeleel Ojuade, Vice-Chancellor of Ojaja University, as well as former colleagues at the National Troupe of Nigeria, including Professor Chris Nwaru, Dr Casmir Onyemuchara and Dr Steve James.

Husseini further expressed gratitude to his friend, Dr Josephine Kingsley-Emu, for her support throughout his career.

The recognition celebrates Husseini’s longstanding involvement in dance and the performing arts, alongside his contributions to Nigeria’s creative sector.
