The National Assembly inserted 11,122 projects worth N6.93 trillion in the 2025 Federal Government (FG) budget.

According to BudgIT, the civil society organization (CSO), which made these findings, the figure represents 12.61% of the ₦54.99 trillion approved for the year.

Further analysis of the insertions revealed that streetlights accounted for the largest share, with a total allocation of N393.29 billion. Based on this figure, the implementing agency is estimated to procure one streetlight at a staggering cost of N266 million.

Similarly, 538 boreholes were inserted into the budget at a total cost of N114.53 billion, placing the average cost of a single borehole at N212.88 million.

The National Assembly also allocated N505.79 billion for 1,122 ICT projects, translating to an average of N449.9 million per project.

In addition, N17.23 billion was earmarked for the construction of 53 community town halls, estimating the cost of each town hall at N325.09 million.

The insertions also included 561 educational projects worth N179.66 billion and 319 health projects valued at N420.09 billion.

Other items inserted into the budget include traditional ruler empowerment projects worth N6.74 billion, and 1,380 road projects totaling N1.44 trillion.

For security, N11.7 billion was allocated for the procurement of 24 security vehicles, bringing the average cost of each to N487.5 million.

BudgIT has flagged these allocations as examples of financial mismanagement, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in the 2025 federal budget.
