Serial entrepreneur and Chairman of Platform Capital, Dr. Akintoye Akindele has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force for alleged fraud in payments for crude oil supplied to Duport Midstream Company Limited.

Akindele, who had received an invitation to appear before the Nigeria Police Force on Monday, July 24, 2023, left the country without honoring the invitation, in an attempt to thwart efforts to get him to account for the crude oil he allegedly sold and received payment for.

Akindele is also being investigated based on a separate petition filed by concerned shareholders of Duport Midstream Co Ltd for alleged misappropriation of millions of dollars of company funds.

Sources in the company say Akindele, who also serves as Duport Midstream’s interim managing director, has acknowledged receiving the money but refused to give appropriate account if it.

He has reportedly also resisted all efforts by a board-appointed forensic auditor to probe discrepancies in the company’s financial records.

In recent times, Akindele has also been in the news for some controversial failed projects that have not been completed even after nearly three years and some critics have questioned his corporate governance culture and practices.

Sources close to the police confirm that Akindele is now in their custody for questioning and possible prosecution as the investigation into the allegations against him continues.
