Lawal’s crime, according to the ad-hoc committee, included his alleged spending of N570 million to cut grass. President Muhammadu Buhari studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, which investigated the allegations. The President accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Babachir Lawal, and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation. .

After sacking him in October, Buhari said he expected anti-graft agencies to go after him. Mr Boss Gida Mustapha who replaced Lawal is a lawyer, management consultant, politician, businessman and boardroom guru of considerable repute.
