Ex-queen of Iwo kingdom, Queen Chanel Chin, has dismissed allegations linking the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to controversies surrounding her
Ex-queen of Iwo kingdom, Queen Chanel Chin, has dismissed allegations linking the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to controversies surrounding her past marriage to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.
In a statement on Friday, Queen Chanel described the allegations circulating in the media as false, misleading, and damaging to the integrity of the Yoruba traditional institution.
She emphasized that her introduction to Oluwo was facilitated by a respected Lagos monarch, not by the Ooni of Ife.
“I regarded this Lagos Monarch as my royal father, and I still hold him in high esteem. At no time did he introduce me to Oluwo for any malicious intent,” she clarified.
Queen Chanel also recounted past moments with the Lagos monarch and his wife, noting that she once visited them in Lagos alongside Oluwo and their son, Prince Oduduwa.
The former queen accused her ex-husband of neglecting their child for over five years, stating that he resurfaced only in August during a visit to Canada.
According to her, Oluwo declined to sign the boy’s passport papers but left a sum of $500, which she said was the first financial support he had ever given their son.
“Despite his absence, I have shouldered the responsibility of raising my son alone, while always advocating for peaceful co-parenting,” she said.
She urged the public to disregard narratives attempting to malign the Ooni of Ife and called on the traditional institution to caution Oluwo from further degrading the sacred throne he once occupied.
Queen Chanel stressed that this would be her final public statement on the matter, reaffirming her love for Prince Oduduwa and respect for the Yoruba people.
