Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu on Friday had his official guest house in Maitama, Abuja searched by men of the FCT Police Command. This comes barely weeks after he raised an alarm over plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to plant huge sums of money and other items on him. The anti-graft agency had debunked the claim at the time, saying the Deputy Senate President had nothing to fear if he was clean.

Disclosing the development to the press, Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate, Mr. Uche Anichukwu said that neither Ekweremadu nor any of his senior aides was informed before the search.

According to Mr. Anichukwu, only the steward was present when the policemen who claimed to be from the Force Headquarters arrived at the 10 Ganges Street, Maitama guest house before taking the place apart. He claimed that nothing was found from the search.

Ike Ekweremadu (PDP, Enugu-West), has been Deputy Senate President since 2007 but has seen his position become increasingly untenable since the All progressives Congress (APC) took over power in 2015.
