Ralph Nwosu, the founder and pioneer Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, says the executives of the party under his leadership have decided to resign and support its interim leadership led by David Mark, the former senate president.

Nwosu who spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the unveiling of the ADC as the coalition party ahead of the 2027 elections said the opposition coalition is not about seeking power but moving Nigeria to global reckoning.

“My welcome address here today, I titled it beyond politics and power. We must commit to moving Nigeria from the ICU to global reckoning. It’s not about seeking power. We have the capacity,” Nwosu said.

“ADC has always been about the rejuvenation of Nigeria and Africa. This journey started about 18 months back and we have over 12 NEC meetings. When we were consulted, we said we have also been consulting because we are a party that believes in coalition.

“A day like this shows that we are ready to sacrifice anything for Nigeria. We don’t have any doubt in the man, we all have decided to resign. Nigerians are yearning for a coalition because they want everyone to come together.”

Nwosu also has said Mark is leading the coalition to the Presidential Villa.

“Nigerians are yearning for change. They are yearning for the coalition. I congratulate you both and assure you that working with the NWC and NEC members you will meet, you have no problem.

“I will be talking as a floor member. My job will not end until we sing the national anthem in the Villa. That will be the real hope. Nigeria has been in ICU. Lives are being lost everyday. My appeal to the emerging political leaders is to take Nigeria from the ICU to global reckoning because we can!

“We can help Mark and Aregbesola by the way we conduct ourselves. Anybody who says anything against what we’ve done today is not ADC member. We shouldn’t be apologetic. We need to be ready for this battle. More will come, but the way we are we will surmount them.”

The event, which attracted politicians from major political parties, including the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was held at the Yar’Adua Centre.

The event was initially scheduled to be held at Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro district of Abuja before it was shifted to the Yar’Adua centre.

A few hours to the event, the hotel management informed organisers that the facility would no longer host the unveiling due to an unspecified internal compliance matter.
