Following a well orchestrated plan by members of staff of Arik Air to go on an indefinite strike pending when the 7 months salary being owed them amongst several other issues, the airline has now agreed to pay all salary arrears to its workers beginning from Friday follwoing the intervention of The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Recall that the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, National Union of Air Transport Employees and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria had joined the workers in the planned strike in solidarity with them while also insisting that the arrears of seven months’ salaries being owed them be paid as well as a commitment to pay salaries as and when due.

A communiqué issued at the end of a scheduled meeting held at the instance of NCAA stated that the unions, that is, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), have all agreed to shelve the strike following the intervention of the regulatory authority.

The communiqué which bore the signatures of the Deputy Managing Director of the airline, Capt. Ado Sanusi, Associated Vice President, Treasury, Mr. Garuba Akeem, Comrades Ocheme Aba, Francis Akinjole and Olayinka Abioye of NAAPE, ATSSSAN and NUATE, respectively, as well as Capt. Abdullahi Sisi, Director, Operations and Training, NCAA, agreed among other things that no individual shall be victimized as a consequence of the strike action

Additionally, a committee to review the circumstances of all laid-off employees, made up of one member from each union and Arik Air, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 10 January 2017.
