The management of the African Independent Television, AIT owned by Chief Raymond Alegho Dokpesi, yesterday sacked at least 300 of its staff nationwide. The exercise was said to have been done to allow a repositioning of the media organisation. AIT, which is part of the DAARS Communications Limited, owes backlog of staff salaries which some put at between five to 13 months. This comes barely 24-hours after the Sun newspaper owned by former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu purged several of its staff, including senior editorial members. Among those affected were the Deputy Managing Director, Steve Nwosu, three General Managers, the Editor of the Sunday title, Alhaji Fatai Oladehinde; Ikenna Emehu; Editor, Sporting Sun, John Joshua Akanji; Yinka Fabowale; and Emeka Okoroyanwu. An executive director, Bolaji Tunji, was said to have resigned before the sack letters were handed out and has since resumed his political appointment in Oyo State.
