How sad can it be when one who gave most her life to the betterment of her country passes on without the media being awash with news of her death. Unfortunately that is the sad story of Sefinatu Mohammed, the famous activist and fashionista who ruled the fashion, political and social scene in the late 80s and early 90s. Sefinatu was as fierce as they come. An outspoken social critic, she was well known as the voice of the voiceless and she fearlessly and passionately spoke on topics and issues of national interest on radio stations which she called on a daily basis. Sefinatu Mohammed attained legendary status for being the first caller to almost every radio and television phone-in programme in Lagos to give her opinion about burning national issues. She was quite passionate about Nigeria. As a fashion enthusiast, she was a pioneer of fashion shows, and was a regular anchor for events at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos. She was also a well known advocate for women, widows, and children. Years before her death, she faded out into obscurity as a result of ill health. She suffered from Alzheimers disease one that drained her financially and left her in abject penury. So bad was her financial situation that her family members created a memorial post to help raise funds for her funeral. She died quietly and was buried on November 24th at her ancestral home in Badagry.
