The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said that that he is in talks with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential flagbearer of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP), to support his ambition in the forthcoming general election.

Atiku made this known in an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday, January 31.

The former vice-president noted that both Obi and Kwankwaso are not a threat to his chances of winning at the presidential poll scheduled for February 25.

Atiku stated that, “Although, I see no threat in any of them but we are in talks, and the discussion might yield a positive result that will see one of them coming to support me.”

The PDP presidential candidate, while speaking on the lingering crisis rocking the main opposition party, said that each political party has its internal crisis and theirs will not be an exemption.

However, he added that the national leadership of PDP is working hard to solve every differences amongst aggrieved party members in no distant time.

Atiku stated that, “Each political party has its internal crisis, we are still talking with the aggrieved members of the party

“Definitely this will not make us lose the election because we are prepared for the forthcoming election now.

“Elections in 2023 is not like in the past when a governor will dictate who to vote for, victory at the polls is now in the hands of the voters,” he added.

Recall that since the emergence of former vice-president, Abubakar Atiku, as PDP presidential candidate, there have been intensified moves by some aggrieved governors of the party, known as G5, for Ayu’s replacement by a candidate from the south.

They argued that the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 presidential poll, and the national chairman, cannot come from the same geo-political zone.

The aggrieved governors also stated that they want Ayu to be replaced by a candidate from the south for the purpose of equity and political balance.
