That former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida is a strategist cannot be denied or how else does one explain how his early positioning of his youngest son, Aminu Babangida has now ended in the young man being made Chairman of the Board of Directors of Unity Bank Plc, thus making him the youngest bank chairman in the history of banking in Nigeria. The bank says the appointment of Aminu Babangida will no doubt be an added advantage as he is bringing to the table, a vast experience of driving entrepreneurship and diversified background spanning the oil and gas industry, education and international equity market.

Aminu Babangida was appointed to the board of Unity Bank Plc in March, 2011 as a non-executive director. Before his latest appointment, he was the vice chairman and had served in a number of Board Committees including Board Audit Committee, Board Information Technology Strategy Committee and Chaired the Board Governance and Nominations Committee as well as the Board Credit Committee respectively. He is a Co-founder/Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Energy, attended Regents Business School and Westminster Business School, both in London, United Kingdom, where he obtained a BA in International Business and an MA in International Business Management, respectively. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
