An unexploded civil war bomb suspected to be from the Nigerian/Biafra civil war was on Wednesday discovered in Enugu, 47 years after the end of the war in a farmland at Amaetiti, Oji River Local Government Area of the state. The civil war was fought between Nigerian troops and the defunct secessionist republic of Biafra between 1967 and 1970 and Enugu was the capital of the defunct Republic of Biafra. Over a million civilians were killed in the conflict. Most of them died from starvation.
