A few days ago, Mabel Nwanegbu, the estranged wife of comedian and movie producer, Ayo Makun clocked 40. To celebrate the milestone, the new man in her life, Idris Aregebe, the Senior Assistant to Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Culture and Tourism, surprised her by hiring gospel singer, Yinka Alaseyori to serenade her with gospel tunes at her home.
Then there was a praise and worship session later in the day at the Trinity House Church. Several gospel groups including the church choir serenaded guests who were mostly made up of her friends and close family members. Although her two children attended the worship session, her former in-laws were conspicuously missing. Officiating at the worship and praise session was the founder of the church, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo. There was a modest after party.
Mabel and Idris had initially been very discreet about their relationship in the past. But they both decided to finally put an end to all speculations and show the world that they are indeed a couple with their attendance at the 2026 New Year party of Chief Mrs Toyin Kolade, the Iyalaje of Yoruba land. Speculations that they are a couple began back in 2024 when Mabel held a funeral party for her late mum. Although Idris arrived the venue of the party looking like one of her numerous guests, one could easily deduce from the undercurrent that they were not just mere friends.
Mabel’s marriage to AY ended in 2023. But it was not until 2024 that the couple publicly confirmed that their marriage had ended. Before then, their marriage had been troubled particularly in 2016 when reports emerged that Mabel had moved out of their residence for undisclosed reasons. Although the couple denied this in a joint statement, but sources revealed at that time that there were cracks in the marriage.
Idris on his own part used to be married to Dupe Badmus Aregbe, the vice chairman of Oshodi/Isolo local government. Although Idris is an alleged philanderer, sources reveal that his marriage to Dupe allegedly broke down because of his affair with Mabel and how vested he was in her. Ironically, the affair allegedly began while Mabel was still under her husband’s roof.
So far so good, all parties seem to have accepted their fate and settled in nicely. Goodluck to them.
