Barely two weeks after he shut down the city of Abuja to celebrate his 5oth birthday, city tailor, Seyi Adekunle aka Seyi Vodi, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodi Group has distributed 40 new customized sewing machines to 40 youths with tailoring skills.
Recall that IvoryNG had exclusively reported a few months ago that Seyi Vodi had debuted his own brand of industrial sewing machines. The machines, over a hundred of them are in the national green and white colours.
Seyi Vodi was a guest panelist at the National Youth Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Summit (YEEP’25) where over 80 Nigerian youths were empowered through various sponsorships and awards made a pledge to gift 40 young tailors 40 of these sewing machines to boost youth entrepreneurship.
Held in Abuja, the Summit organized by Activate Success International Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) aimed to equip young Nigerians with essential tools, mentorship, and access to grants to grow their ventures, fostering youth entrepreneurship and driving economic growth in Nigeria attracted over 2,300 registrations from enthusiastic young Nigerians including past and serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Adekunle who shared his inspiring story of humble beginnings at the Summit said he was also giving out the machines in commemoration of his 50th birthday last week.
Known for being the only Nigerian fashion designer who has made clothes and is still making clothes for over five African presidents, diplomats, politicians and very important personalities, Seyi is widely celebrated for his innovative approach to bespoke tailoring.
He began the tailoring business while undergoing his mandatory national youth service in Akwa Ibom some 23 years ago. He befriended some tailors in the town and learnt how to sew from them. He started with sewing shirts and boxers for his colleagues who were his first clients. He then registered his company in 2001 as Testimony Fabrics but eventually changed the name to Vodi in 2003 as he wanted a name that was shorter and more African.
Today his company, Vodi Group has expanded to include Vodi Tailors, Vodi Clean, Vodi Training Institute, Vodi Debbo, Vodi Shoes and Vodi Textile.
