Buildings numbering about seven were on Wednesday destroyed in a fire outbreak that affected a section of Balogun market, located on Lagos Island. The fire outbreak is reported to have started from Anambra Plaza on Martins street in the market and has spread to about six other structures.

Traders were in a serious panic as they salvage their goods from the windows of the high-rise buildings and scamper to safety. Two of the buildings have caved in while there is no report of any casualty yet.

The fire which started in the morning created panic in the market with many witnesses sharing videos on social media, showing fire billowing from a building in the crowded market. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage had yet to be ascertained with emergency workers joining traders to help bring the situation under control.
