Former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has donated the sum of N50 million to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha.

He visited the school earlier today, where he announced the generous donation to support infrastructural development at the prestigious institution.

The donation, described as a gesture of gratitude and commitment to education, aims to bolster ongoing efforts to improve facilities at CKC, one of Nigeria’s leading secondary schools with a rich history of academic excellence.

Obi, a proud alumnus of the college, expressed his deep connection to the institution during a brief ceremony attended by school administrators, faculty, students, and members of the CKC community.

“Christ the King College played a pivotal role in shaping my values and aspirations,” Obi said.

“This donation is my way of giving back to an institution that gave me so much and to ensure future generations have access to quality education in a conducive environment.”

The ₦50 million contribution will fund critical infrastructure projects, including the renovation of classrooms, laboratories, and other facilities to enhance the learning experience for students.

The school’s principal, Reverend Father Celestine Obi, lauded the donation, noting its timely impact on addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges.

“His Excellency’s generosity is a blessing to our school and a testament to his lifelong dedication to education and youth development,” Fr. Obi stated.

“This donation will go a long way in improving our facilities and inspiring our students to strive for excellence.”

The visit, which also included a tour of the school’s premises, sparked excitement among students who engaged with Obi, asking questions about leadership and education.

The former governor encouraged the students to uphold the values of integrity, hard work, and service, which he credited to his time at CKC.

Peter Obi’s donation comes amid his continued advocacy for increased investment in education across Nigeria.

The gesture has been widely praised on social media, with many commending his commitment to supporting educational institutions.

As Christ the King College prepares to implement the infrastructure upgrades, the CKC community and alumni have expressed gratitude for Obi’s contribution, viewing it as a catalyst for further development at the school.
