Media personality, Oriyomi Hamzat has announced his intention to run for governorship in Oyo State.

Oriyomi who is the founder of Agidigbo FM, plans to fulfill his ambition on the platform of Accord Party.

The announcement which he made in the presence of a huge crowd of supporters in Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, signals a major shift in Hamzat’s political strategy.

Many had previously thought that he would align himself with one of the other candidates and actively campaign for his choice candidate but he has now affirmed his determination to actively pursue the governorship seat.

Hamzat told supporters that his decision followed what he described as a “divine calling.”

According to him, he never planned to join a political party or seek elective office, noting that his past involvement in politics was limited to supporting others.

“I never imagined I would join a political party, let alone contest an election. I have always been a supporter and cheerleader for aspirants and candidates, but God had other plans,” he said.

Hamzat said, “Today, I am publicly declaring my intention to join Accord as my political platform and to contest the Oyo governorship election in 2027 as a candidate.”

Also, he said his decision was not backed by financial strength, political influence, or the support of the government in power.

“I don’t have money or political connections, and I don’t have the backing of the government of the day. I have come with God, and that is all I need,” he stated.

He attributed his public acceptance and popularity to the support of ordinary people across the state, particularly those he described as oppressed, adding that his media work had always focused on public advocacy.

“I have always used my platform to amplify the voices of the people. Now, I am taking a step further to serve you and to deliver development projects to the people of Oyo State,” he concluded.
