The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Oluwadahunsola Taiwo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green Eagles Agribusiness Solution Limited (Ltd.) at the Lagos state High Court in Ikeja, the state’s capital for his involvement in N11.2 million investment fraud.
Taiwo was brought before Justice O. A Okunuga on Thursday, June 26 on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences.
According to court filings, the complainant identified as Adepoju Idowu stated that he invested various sums in agricultural schemes promoted by Taiwo between February and October 2020.
These included a N1.5 million investment in a vegetable farm in February 2020, which promised a 30% quarterly return, and N1.06 million in a rice farming venture in April 2020, with a projected 40% return every six months.
Idowu also claimed to have invested N4.9 million in the company’s Green Wealth Project ‘1-Year Tenor’ in October 2020, advertised with a 30% annual return.
On the same date, he committed another N4.9 million to the Green Wealth Project ‘3-Year Tenor’ under similar terms.
All payments were said to have been made to Green Eagles Agribusiness Solution Limited via a First Bank account.
However, Idowu stated that the company failed to deliver the promised returns and that subsequent efforts to contact Taiwo were unsuccessful.
One of the charges read, “That you, Oluwadajunsola Taiwo, and Green Eagles Agribusiness Solution Limited, between February and October 2020, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your own use an aggregate sum of N11,260,000.00 (eleven million, two hundred and sixty thousand naira), property of Adepoju Idowu, thereby committing an offence of Stealing contrary to Section 285(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
However, Taiwo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, prosecuting counsel, R.A Abdulrasheed requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the commencement of proceedings.
Justice Okunuga granted the request and ordered Taiwo’s remand.
The judge then was adjourned the case to Thursday, October 23 for trial.
