Dave Umahi, former Ebonyi State governor and Minister of Works is grooming his son, Osborn Nweze Umahi to become the local government chairman of Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State.

He is only 28 years old, has never been a politician and never had the requisite experience.

One would have thought that the proper thing for any sensible person to do was to start from the lower rung, perhaps as a councilor and then work your way up the ladder.

But the older Umahi is not one for processes obviously. Osborn has now gone ahead to obtain the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to contest the chairmanship election ahead of the August 2026 council polls in the state.

Expectedly, politicians in the state are hailing Osborn as someone who is not only capable but one who is likely to do well as a politician and provide effective leadership going by how well he has performed as a businessman.

Osborn claims that if elected, youth empowerment will be a central focus of his administration noting that, as a young person, he understands the challenges facing youths in his local government. He also promised to maintain his father’s legacy in infrastructure development, assuring residents that his administration would prioritize projects with a tangible, positive impact across the local government.

Osborn currently runs the family business particularly in the hospitality industry where they operate a hotel chain, Osborn La Palm Royal Resort. A graduate of Engineering from Surrey University he also holds an Msc from the University of Aberdeen. In addition to running the family business, he runs Forte GCC Innovative Solutions, an engineering and real estate consultancy business that offers a wide range of entertainment and IT solutions. He is also the managing director of Brass Oil as well as The Osborn Foundation through which he provides shelter, education, empowerment, poverty alleviation and infrastructural development to the less privileged.
