The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023, Peter Obi, on Friday in Bauchi, paid a visit to Malkiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Taufizul Quranic Islamic School, where he donated N10 million and N5 million respectively.

While speaking at the Malkiya College of Nursing, Obi said that it is human infrastructure that drives health.

“The nurse is more important than the doctor. The doctor is the nurse, the patient. The nurse owns the patient. The nurse is everything. It is predicted that by 2030, the world will be full of nurses. So you are leading an important cause. So I thank you, the prophet, for what you are doing here.

“We need to help. We need to support what you are doing. What you are doing is for the benefit of society. And for those of us, it is not politics. I visit approximately 70 nursing schools annually to support them,” he said.

Obi said that he knew the critical role the nurses play in delivering. “We have an issue of health today, and it is important that we do the right thing. So build a better country where people will be healthy, because health is wealth,” he said.

He proceeded to the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis to donate N5 million in cash to the Islamiyya School, stating that he had to contribute to the school’s activities.

Obi said that his visit was not political, but rather to improve the lives of young people. “Our children must learn, learn the teachings of Islam to help them live a better life and learn English and Maths to become scientists.”

He proceeded to present a talk at a forum on “Youth and Leadership Opportunity”, organised by Students Union Government (SUG) Presidents.
