Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a leadership institute called The Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, OOLI. The institute which came into being in June is not only an institute, but also a movement aimed to reclaim Africa’s leadership narrative, a platform to raise and strengthen leaders who are not only equipped for today’s realities but also prepared to navigate the complexities of tomorrow.
The OOLI has the blessing of the National University Commission, NUC as an affiliate of Bellstech but it is however not an entirely academic university.
It will copy the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS in some ways but not entirely like NIPSS. It will be unique in every way.
The governing board of the institute which include former African heads of state, seasoned academics, diplomats, and globally renowned development experts, was inaugurated by Ghanaian president, John Mahama, who described the institute as poised to be a model for leadership capacity building in Africa. The institute recently kicked off with the launch of an advanced certificate in school leadership and management (ACSLM) programme and a special long-vacation training for school principals and vice-principals from Ogun and Oyo States. The inaugural cohort will be a 9-week intensive programme. The aim is to train principals and teachers who are a powerful force in shaping the lives of children in desired directions.
