The lawmaker representing Delta central, Ovie Omo-Agege, has been elected deputy president of the senate. He secured 68 votes in the election to defeat a three-time deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu representing Enugu-West, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 37 votes. A total of 105 votes were cast in the election. One vote was voided while Senator Ali Ndume abstained from voting after loosing out to Senator Ahmed Lawan, the new Senate President.
