Mamman Daura, nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, says he is currently in quarantine in the United Kingdom where he travelled to recently.

UK mandates new arrivals from certain countries, including Nigeria, to self-quarantine for 14 days.

In a video in which he was speaking in Hausa over the phone with Buhari in what appeared to be a private residence, Daura said he arrived safely in the UK.

Mamman Daura left the country on Wednesday, leading to rumours that he had been infected with COVID-19 and was flown out on medical emergency. But his family said that he is “in good health” and only travelled for his regular medical check-up.

“Mallam (Daura) did not travel to the UK to treat COVID-19 or because of any medical emergency. He is in good health. He went for his regular check-up and there is nothing strange about that,” one of his relatives said.

In the video which was confirmed was his call to Buhari, Daura also expressed condolences on Wada Maida, another associate of the president who died on Monday.
“We arrived safely, so we are in quarantine for now. Yes, unfortunately… that is it,” he told the president. We have not spoken since Mallam Mada Waida (died). May Allah forgive him.”

He also said that a governor came to console him on the death of Isa Funtua, another confidant of the president who passed on a month ago.

The references to recent events are apparently meant to dispel possible rumours that it is an old video.
