Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi school girl who has been in Boko Haram captivity for over a year, is currently in the United States to seek the US president, Donald Trump’s help and that of the international community, for the release of her daughter. Leah Sharibu was among the 111 school girls abducted from the Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School in Dapchi, Bursari local government area of Yobe State, by Boko Haram insurgents, o February 19, 2018.

While the federal government secured the release of 104 girls, five of the girls died in captivity. Leah is still in captivity for her refusal to denounce her faith. Recently, family, friends and well-wishers held a series of activities in Abuja, Lagos and Jos to mark Leah’s 16th birthday.

In a video, Rebecca Sharibu standing in front of the White House and flanked by two women, said her daughter committed no offence other than her refusal to denounce her faith.
I am Rebecca Sharibu. I stand here pleading with government of U.S. Please help me! Please help me bring my daughter back,” she said.

“I am here to plead with the US government and President Donald Trump to help an to prevail on the Nigerian Government to assist in securing the release of Leah Sharibu from Boko Haram’s captivity. Please do whatever you can to ensure the return of my daughter because she committed no crime other than to refuse to denounce her faith.”
